Double acting hydraulic cylinder | AARIV PRECISION

 Double acting hydraulic cylinder | AARIV PRECISION

Double acting hydraulic cylinder is the most common type of cylinders found in hydraulic systems. There are many reasons behind this but before we discuss the benefits of double acting hydraulic cylinder lets us see how these double acting hydraulic cylinders work.

How double acting hydraulic cylinder works –

The basic principle of the fluid mechanics in a double acting hydraulic cylinder is that in this type of cylinder fluid acts at both sides of the piston within the cylinder. Therefore, no external force is required for operation of double acting hydraulic cylinder. In double acting hydraulic cylinders, there are two ports at both ends of cylinder for extraction as well retraction of the piston. The piston of the cylinder is attached to the shaft of the external part with a hole. Through this the piston is extracted and the fluid at other side of the piston automatically retracts the piton to the previous position. To prevent leakage of fluid from the cylinder a stuffing box is used with the cylinder.

Advantage of double acting hydraulic cylinder over other types –

Double acting hydraulic cylinders can pump hydraulic fluid to both side of the plunger within the cylinder. That means you need not apply any external force for the extraction retraction process. This function saves on energy as well as makes the system faster. The connecting ports attached at both ends allows the piston rod of cylinder to move in forward and backward directions. The extra port of double acting hydraulic cylinder ensures more control over the operation of cylinder. The automatic retraction after extraction gives precise control as the retraction is done upto a fixed position. The faster and precise retraction of piston in double acting cylinder makes this cylinder a better choice when the job requires repeatable accuracy. So, if are looking for a cylinder that will let you generate force at both the ends with optimum control over the operation, you should always opt for a double acting hydraulic cylinder.

Where double acting hydraulic cylinder are primarily used –

As we have already discussed, double acting hydraulic cylinders are used where precision is the key. The most common areas of use of double acting hydraulic cylinder are presses and punches and for placing things on the conveyor belts and taking them off the belt. In both the cases repetitive actions are required in high speed with greater precision. Other than that, double acting hydraulic cylinders are also used for opening and closing of automated gates and valves, in carwash systems and for operating dock doors. These cylinders are used for painting and powder coating objects. Apart from these regular jobs double acting hydraulic cylinders are also used for operating sophisticated medical equipment and even the state-of-the-art shuttle bay doors of the International Space Station are opened and closed with double acting hydraulic cylinder. So, it is evident that double acting hydraulic cylinders have multifarious usage in hydraulic systems in everyday usage as well as in sophisticated systems and that is primarily because of its high precision output.

What is Telescopic hydraulic cylinder - AARIV PRECISION

What is Telescopic hydraulic cylinder?

Telescopic hydraulic cylinders are multi-stage cylinders. This is basically a linear actuator that is made of a series of sleeves or tubular rods. In a Telescopic hydraulic cylinder four or five sleeves are nested in one another and with each sleeve the diameter of the rod is decreased sequentially. When the fluid enters Telescopic hydraulic cylinder, it first enters the largest sleeve or main barrel, which then starts to extend. When the barrel is extended to the highest-level fluid then enters the next sleeve or stage. This way the fluid is transferred from one sleeve to the next one within the Telescopic hydraulic cylinder. As the diameter of the sleeves decreases the pressure of the fluid is increased though the same force is maintained. This way the fluid ultimately reaches the last sleeve that is called the plunger.

Types of Telescopic hydraulic cylinder: –

There are two types of Telescopic hydraulic cylinder — one is the single acting Telescopic hydraulic cylinder and the other is the double-acting Telescopic hydraulic cylinder. The single-acting cylinders are the most common type of cylinders and they work by the either by the gravitational force or the spring for retraction. In case of the double-acting cylinders the pressure of the fluid is applied at both side of the piston within the cylinder. Double-acting Telescopic hydraulic cylinders are mainly used in large and fixed installations.

Where Telescopic hydraulic cylinders are used?

Where normal working stroke of the hydraulic cylinder cannot be feasible for the job Telescopic hydraulic cylinders are used for these tasks. Actually, Telescopic hydraulic cylinders are ideal for applications that require long stroke but with a shorter retraction length. The nested design of the Telescopic hydraulic cylinders is the biggest advantage that saves space. The compact design of the Telescopic hydraulic cylinders makes it a first preference where larger settings cannot be installed but proper hydraulic thrust is required and that is why this type of cylinders are mostly used in dump beds or trailers.

Guide Bush Hydraulic Cylinder Manufacturers, Suppliers, Dealers and Exporters in India

Guide Bush for the Hydraulic Cylinder plays a key function within the cylinder of hydraulic systems. It guides the piston rod coaxially within the cylinder. In this way the guiding bush lets the piston rod transfer the oblique force in relation to axis of the cylinder. While transferring oblique force the hydraulic guide bush also enables the piston rod compensate for the force. When a cylinder is mounted on a flange or it is fitted on feet, it generates force that is perpendicular to the axis of a cylinder. This force actually seizes the piston rod in the hydraulic guide bush. The design of hydraulic guide bush ensures that the bearing sleeves, piston rod and guiding rings are seated properly when the cylinder is extracting and retracting.

Due to the construction of guide bushes, we can distinguish:

1.cylinder guide bush — where the flange, when seated, forms the face of the cylinder;

2.guide bush without flange — where a separate cover closing the cylinder is necessary

3.threaded guide bush — screwed into the body of the hydraulic cylinder;

4.guide bush slidably mounted in the cylinder body — fastened by a flange, mechanical protection, etc.

There are may factors that need to be considered when a hydraulic guide bush is selected for a cylinder. The type of the cylinder, force it requires to handle, alignment of the piston rod, type of hydraulic fluid to be used — all these come into play when selecting the type of hydraulic guide bush that is suitable for the system. Then comes other factors like diameter of the cylinder and dimensions of the piston rod that needs to be calculated for choosing the perfect guide bush for the system. Usually, hydraulic guide bushes are mounted in cylinders in such a way that it can slide suitably. The bushes are attached to the cylinder by flanges with mechanical protection.

There are different types of hydraulic guide bush that are used in the cylinders of hydraulic systems. In case of cylinder guide bush the flange of the bush forms face of cylinder when it is seated. Again, in case of guide bush without a flange a separate cover is to be used for closing the cylinder. The threaded hydraulic guide bushes are fixed to the cylinder with screws. These are some types of hydraulic guide bushes that are used in cylinders. The right type of bush is selected on the basis of the factors that we have already discussed.

The hydraulic guide bushes are usually made with mild steel. The cases of the hydraulic guide bushes are made with medium carbon steel which is a hardened metal than regular steel. This is done to use the hardened casing protect the bushes from regular wear and tear from the continuous movement of the piston rod. As the hydraulic guide bush is an important part of hydraulic cylinders, they need to be inspected at regular intervals to prevent sudden breakdown of the system.

What are the benefits of using a Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinder

Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinder is basically a linear actuator with stages of sleeves that extends and retract to do its job. Instead of a circular motion in Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinders the linear actuator moves in a straight motion. Each type of hydraulic cylinder has its own benefits and Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinder also has some benefits that makes it a preferred choice for specific industries and equipment.

Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinders provide longer stroke — The most predominant advantage of using Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinder is its longer stroke. Typically, collapsed length of a Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinder is only 20% to 40% of its fully extended length. This extra-long stroke that can be achieved from a Telescopic Cylinder that too with a compact package makes it unique from others and it is the biggest USP of this cylinder.

Multiple options with Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinder — Manufacturers produce Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinders in three basic configurations — single acting hydraulic cylinders, double acting cylinders and combination of both — single and double acting cylinders. The single acting Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinders produce thrust at one side for extraction and the retracted with the gravitational force. In double acting Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinder, thrust is produced at both ends and these cylinders extremely beneficial for precise extraction and retraction ratio. In case of combination of single and double acting Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinder you can get the benefits of double acting hydraulic cylinders with minimum complexities as it is with the single acting hydraulic cylinders. These varied options make Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinders a choice for many areas of operations.

Compact space saving installation — As it is already discussed that Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinder produce longer stroke than any other type of cylinders. That makes installation of Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinders very space saving. The compact design of these cylinders where the sleeves are inserted within each other during retraction require minimum space. This is the reason that Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinders are widely used in vehicles like dumping trucks and for precision jobs like mining where space is constraint however high capacity is the most important requirement. Even if you need low-capacity cylinders like agricultural equipment the compact design of Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinders make becomes an obvious choice for its compact design and easy installation.

Specific angular motion can be achieved — Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinders can provide operation of cylinder in a specific angle. Say if you want a lift to 60 to 90 degrees for different jobs. A Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinder can be used to achieve the exact elevation as per your requirement. This type of flexibility is hard to get from a cylinder with rod and shaft design.

It is true that Telescopic hydraulic cylinders are not meant for use in all types of applications. But in case of special circumstances, they are the only choice when it comes to selecting the right hydraulic system. Development in innovation of Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinders have expanded scope and advantages of these hydraulic systems manifolds. Compact design, longer reach with simple operations of Telescopic Hydraulic Cylinder makes it a popular choice for specific applications.
