What is Telescopic hydraulic cylinder?
Telescopic hydraulic cylinders are multi-stage cylinders. This is basically a linear actuator that is made of a series of sleeves or tubular rods. In a Telescopic hydraulic cylinder four or five sleeves are nested in one another and with each sleeve the diameter of the rod is decreased sequentially. When the fluid enters Telescopic hydraulic cylinder, it first enters the largest sleeve or main barrel, which then starts to extend. When the barrel is extended to the highest-level fluid then enters the next sleeve or stage. This way the fluid is transferred from one sleeve to the next one within the Telescopic hydraulic cylinder. As the diameter of the sleeves decreases the pressure of the fluid is increased though the same force is maintained. This way the fluid ultimately reaches the last sleeve that is called the plunger.
Types of Telescopic hydraulic cylinder: –
There are two types of Telescopic hydraulic cylinder — one is the single acting Telescopic hydraulic cylinder and the other is the double-acting Telescopic hydraulic cylinder. The single-acting cylinders are the most common type of cylinders and they work by the either by the gravitational force or the spring for retraction. In case of the double-acting cylinders the pressure of the fluid is applied at both side of the piston within the cylinder. Double-acting Telescopic hydraulic cylinders are mainly used in large and fixed installations.
Where Telescopic hydraulic cylinders are used?
Where normal working stroke of the hydraulic cylinder cannot be feasible for the job Telescopic hydraulic cylinders are used for these tasks. Actually, Telescopic hydraulic cylinders are ideal for applications that require long stroke but with a shorter retraction length. The nested design of the Telescopic hydraulic cylinders is the biggest advantage that saves space. The compact design of the Telescopic hydraulic cylinders makes it a first preference where larger settings cannot be installed but proper hydraulic thrust is required and that is why this type of cylinders are mostly used in dump beds or trailers.
